NATIONAL FLAG OF MONGOLIA RAISED IN OTTAWA

On the occasion of the 2235th anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian Statehood, the 820th anniversary of the Great Mongol Empire, the 115th anniversary of the Restoration of National Freedom and Independence and the National Day of Mongolia, a ceremony of raising the national flag of Mongolia was organized by the Embassy of Mongolia in Canada and the City of Ottawa on July 10, 2026.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Sarantogos Erdenetsogt, Ambassador of Mongolia to Canada, Ms. Stéphanie Plante, Deputy Mayor of Ottawa, Mr. Yasir Naqvi, Member of Parliament, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and to the Secretary of State for International Development, the Honourable Victor Oh, former Senator of Canada, Ms. Joya Donnelly, Director General, Northeast Asia Bureau, Global Affairs Canada, and H.E. Souriya Otmani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Canada and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Canada. Also in attendance were Heads of Mission and Chargés d'Affaires from more than 30 diplomatic missions, including Kuwait, Jordan, Israel, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, the Russian Federation, Malaysia, Türkiye, India, Honduras, Cyprus, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, Georgia, North Macedonia, Thailand, Ghana, Algeria, Malta, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, South Africa, Australia, Cameroon, and Guatemala.

Ambassador E.Sarantogos, Deputy Mayor S.Plante and Director-General J.Donnelly emphasized in their remarks that relations between Mongolia and Canada, founded on shared values such as democracy and human rights, continue to expand and deepen within the framework of the Comprehensive Partnership. They also welcomed the initialing of the Air Transport Agreement between Government of Mongolia and Government of Canada in June 2026, noting their confidence that the agreement will further promote bilateral trade and investment, and strengthen people-to-people ties.

Former Canadian Ambassadors to Mongolia H.E. Gregory Goldhawk and H.E. Catherine Ivkoff, Honorary Consul of Mongolia in Quebec Mr. Paul Lemay, representatives of the Mongolian community in Canada, and teachers and students of the Mongolian School in Ottawa also attended the Flag-Raising Ceremony.
